The Blank Page
June 8, 2026
On my writing desk, next to a picture of Hildegard von Bingen, I have taped up a sign that says “The blank page is more afraid of you than you are of it.” I need this reminder, because—like many writers—I find that the hardest words to write in any project are the first ones.
When the walls of words and parapets of paragraphs haven’t been assembled yet, the dragon of doubt slithers in: “You’re not a real writer. You don’t know what you’re doing. You’re sure to fail.”
The dragon knows that if I ignore it and start writing anyway, it will be defeated.
Writing the first post on this empty blog feels a lot like writing on an empty page. My debut novel isn’t available to purchase yet, so every time I sit down to write this post, the dragon–sensing the sparseness of this website–starts to speak up. It thinks it can win.
But it won’t.
This blog will be updated with news about my book, behind-the-scenes snapshots, and tools for creative inspiration to help you defeat your own blank-page-dragons.
Happy reading!
